A Rhyme for a Meadowlark
Meadowlark, oh meadowlark
You quietly watch us
As we cut down your homes,
and burn them to ash
Why don't you scream?
Meadowlark, oh meadowlark
You sit there silently
As we pollute the air,
and hide the stars
Why don't you weep?
Meadowlark, oh meadowlark
So still you are
As I stroke your bloody feathers
and cover the wound in your chest
Why don't you live?
